The University Arts Association of Canada (UAAC) is launching their call for papers.

Please consider submitting a proposal to speak as part of the Research-Creation Caucus Roundtable.

Deadline to submit proposals is May 30, 2025. Proposals should be emailed directly to Stéfy McKnight at stefy.mcknight@carleton.ca. All presenters must be members in good standing of UAAC-AAUC and must register for the conference. It is highly suggested that members who participate in the Research-Caucus Roundtable join the UAAC Research-Creation Caucus.

RESEARCH-CREATION CAUCUS ROUNDTABLE: MAKING EQUITY CENTERED ARTISTIC RESEARCH IN DARK TIMES

STÉFY MCKNIGHT, Carleton University, stefy.mcknight@carleton.ca

This year, as part of the Research-Creation Caucus, we are considering the ways that universities, governments, and funding agencies across so-called Canada are responding to troubling changes in EDII (equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigeneity) support and policies. Research-creation is a methodology that prioritizes and encourages non-traditional methods of research production including activism, decolonization, pedagogies of care, and mutual aid community building and healing. As such, equity and inclusion are cornerstones of our artistic practices. This roundtable is an opportunity to find solidarity, light and community among artistic researchers during these times of political darkness. Together we ask, how do we produce equity centred artistic research in times of uncertainty? How can we maintain national and international partnerships with institutions and researchers whose funding support is compromised by changing EDI policies? And more importantly, how can we support and be in solidarity with equity deserving artistic researchers now and in the future?

Keywords: research-creation, care, solidarity, equity, institutions.
