Event Coordinator (Graduate Research Assistant)
About the Position:
Dr. Stéfy McKnight (Media Production and Design) is organizing a panel in Spring 2027 titled ‘"Family Resemblances": A 25-year celebration and genealogy of research-creation’. This event will bring together a constellation of research-creationists from various stages of its inception, from early discussions at SSHRC and its grant program “Research/Creation Grants in Fine Arts” piloted in 2002, to early doctoral theses, and to more recent emerging scholars and projects. The panel will consist of four experts at various stages in their career, creating a genealogy of sorts, where we will discuss trends, challenges and successes, also documenting its expansion and development for future generations of research-creationists.
The Research Assistant will support the planning of the event and act as a lead organizer.
The Research Assistant will,
be a current graduate student at Carleton University,
have an interest in research-creation and/or artistic research,
have experience in organizing events (experience organizing panels and scholarly
talks an asset),
be available to work on Carleton University’s campus between September 2026
and April 2027.
Assigned Tasks:
The RA will,
do general research activities such as creating a literature review, reading articles and books, familiarising themselves with the speakers and research-creation more broadly,
work alongside the team to develop digital online materials that will summarize the event,
promote the event on campus and in the community,
coordinate with the speakers and help the supervisor organize their travel,
book room and catering, and other technical needs
do general administrative duties like emails, meeting scheduling, and attending project meetings,
do other relevant tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.
Location of Work:
This position will be held in person with remote meetings, at Carleton University, in Ottawa, Ontario Canada, on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin Territory.
Duration and Renumeration:
The duration of this position is 20 hours (September - April), at $56.15 (including vacation and benefits, and minus source deductions) an hour, as per the CUPE 4600 collective agreement.
